I'd suggest breakfast should be earlier than 8 given that in Malory Towers a great joke is made of Gwendoline saying "why at home we don't get up til 8 o'clock" which to me always implied that everyone else was actively doing something by then. 8 also sounds quite late when few schools start before 9
