Winnie the Pooh was very partial to a little smackerel in the mid-morning.
In general society, the midday meal was 'dinner' in the 'working class' and 'lunch' (or more properly luncheon) in the upper classes.
And when I went to Norway, I found the main meal of the day was 'middag', at about 4pm. That was in 1962; I wonder if things have changed?
