A few personal observations, if I may, in this quiet dawn before the guns (?) open up. First, the excellent posts on this thread have provided much food for Ransome thought and I congratulate all concerned. I remain convinced that there is always room for this type of more serious thread, to balance the more light-hearted "How It All Works" and "Nostalgia" types of thread (for which there is also room).
Jock mentions "the odd sniper or even a round or two of heavy artillery". Hmmm - I think I have seen a lighted cannon fuse in his hand lately, but if he is in the trench with Duncan then maybe the guns will remain silent today:-) (Actually I don't mind an occasional spot of 'artillery' in arguments - it creates a dynamic and a realism which, in my view, we sometimes lack.)

Whilst I agree with everything else in his posting, I've never agreed with that particular concept. I find it fiendishly difficult not to read everything on TarBoard - I always read everything and would feel that I'd missed out if I didn't. For me, TarBoard is one single entity - it cannot be split. It presents a single face to the world. People have sometimes said "why not avoid a thread if you disagree with the views on it or you have no interest in it?" No way, not for me. All postings on this board are published under the Ransome banner - it's at the top of the page - and therefore I am compelled to read them whether I like them or not. If it's about Ransome - then I'm involved!
