I don't think you have. The sole purpose of the books (apart of course from earning some money for AR, Evgenia and Cape) is enjoyment. If mud flats don't appeal to you, that's just a pity.

Way back when I first read it, I remember enjoying the business of surveying and the Mastodon's divided loyalties. It had a very strange (to me) atmosphere that did come from the mud and the shape changing geography. But although I have travelled to visit the site a number of times (we were staying with friends at Mistley, fairly nearby) it's not a book I have returned to often, unlike say PM or WH. It's all a very personal thing.
