Secret Water was my introduction to the Ransome chronicles. As a result, I found S&A and eventually collected all 12. Although at least one frequent poster once noted that if SW had been the first AR book he read, he would have stopped at that point, I am with Jock: SW is one of my favorites, while CC and BS bore me to death and GN? seems to me to be AR's "biggest stretch" . . . as though he had a contract to fulfill and had to write something.
