Does anyone else have difficulty with particular passages that they consider to be a stretch too far?

As this thread hasn't yet taken off, let's see what happens if I give it a bit of a prod. One example of what
I consider to be 'a stretch too far' is the passage where AR tells us that all but the younger Coots had given
up piracy. At the time I read it first I didn't give it a second glance. Now I realise that AR is telling us that
we are moving on from the part imaginary world inhabited by the S&A's to the real world with adult conflicts.
But I ask myself how realistic is it that the Coots - growing up in a world of boats rather than books - would
have been into piracy in the first place, let alone moving on to nature conservancy?

Does anyone else have a problem with this or another passage?
