I don't disagree that there is a good deal of ignorance, parochialism etc. in the U.S.A. I have to deal with it every day in my classes, not to mention cringing almost every time certain American politicians open their mouths. That does not, however, make the negative stereotyping any more palatable or appropriate in a forum that should, ideally, be concerned with international understanding of Arthur Ransome and his works.
