Ken - I know Albion very well, though I've never sailed on her. My children have, a couple of years ago, along with Andy's.
Many years ago, she caused me to knock my wife (as she is now, she wasn't then) overboard. We were sailing up the Bure, somewhere near Horning Hall, on a Herbert Woods boat, Fine Lady IV, when we saw Albion coming round the bend towards us - a magnificent sight under full sail. I was helming but nevertheless reached for my camera, mentioning so I'm told that this was very bad practice and should never be copied by anyone. Too right. We gybed, and the boom knocked Wendy, who was also attempting to take a photopgraph, off the stern. She suffered a broken finger, and a waterlogged camera (but still married me).I'm not sure if I have the photo.
That would have been 1980 or 81, so you may have been skippering at the time.
Your period of command also I think covers the time when the BBC were making Coot Club and the Big Six (aka Swallows and Amazons Forever) on the Broads - Albion was used as the Sir Garnett. Were you involved in that?
PS Just found a can of Adnams in the back of the fridge. Here's to your health!
