A technique that you might try is looking at Ransome geography and comparing it to the mirror image of the large scale OS mapping. It gives an interesting twist to the Pull Wood House geography. Here is a comparison of real vs mirror image geography courtesy of the excellent Ordnance Survey online map service as well as direct links to the relevant articles on If Not Duffers... .
Regarding the 'reality' of AR's creations, AndyB's article (like Pinter's lecture) is worth reading.
