Yes, PM is my favorite, though Evgenia seems to have had an even more negative attitude to this book while it was being written than usual. Not much encouragement for AR, we are lucky he got to 12½ books!
Re length I noted from Ed’s word count in 2005 that SW was the shortest (89,722) while SD was the longest (120,622) and PD was nearly as long (118,325). But I didn’t note the other counts.
Also noted in 2005 that the number of lines per page in various editions increased from 33 to 36. Despite being printed in wartime, ML and PM had large initial printings according to Wayne Hammond - the first three books were only of 2000 each. (1941, ML = 20,500 & 1943, PM = 22,750).
Finally, from PM I like the GA’s scene at the end, where she says about the “two charming and well-behaved children” who rescued her from the house-boat that “They would, I think, be most suitable friends for you”.
