Thank you for that further information, Duncan. I opened Google Earth, and the west side of the lake is in rather good resolution. Following your directions, I think Belle Grange has a big X next to it - perhaps a large hip roofed shed or tennis court roof or something.

Further north, there is even a picture of the bike path/former road. Also a picture that purports to be from Huyton Hill pier, but may not be. Be advised that the pictures sometimes take a little while to open, and are often in the wrong location.

Huyton Hill shows up clearly and it is HUGE! Also it is a bit south of the Pull Beck outlet bay, and the 'point' to its east that looks promising on the map seems to be an island! I will do a screen capture later and reverse it to see the actual view from the air reversed. I don't have a good way to link an image - if I try and do it from TarBoard Yahoo group, it probably won't work because of the membership requirement.

I don't know how many TarBoarders use Google Earth, but I could see a "My Places" file put up on the Yahoo TarBoard site eventually that people could copy into their copy of Google Earth and then go right to places that are candidates for locations.
