We always used to camp with the cat. They have a tendency to present you with local wildlife in the middle of the night, but usually don't seem to go very far from the camp.
They actually behave much as Sinbad did in SW. Not surprising since AR and Evgenia were authorities on cats
They have a habit, though, of vanishing for an inconvenient length of time just when you are ready to depart.
