I know what you mean. I suppose one thing with SA books is that they were almost possible, almost real. I remember running around the Lakes on half-term holidays (a privelage of living oop north of course) imagining orcs and trolls and dragons and the like. But as soon as we hired a little rowing boat it was Swallows and Amazons (and we could count the crowds as seals)!
