In your quote, of course, it is the same boat - its basic structure has not changed though its outward appearance has. In the comments about Mavis/Amazon someone mentions that much of its structure had been renewed, this reminded me of the thought experiment. If you replace every plank in a boat with a new one, then its structure is not what it was when you acquired it - but then as the passage shows it is still the same boat to those that use it and look after it.
