"With Mavis, I think it is more a question of structural differences from Amazon (as drawn by AR) right from the outset. The late Pauline Marshall (who as a young girl was part of the 'Coniston set') was adamant that Mavis was not Amazon, so Mike Field is not alone here."

I have to agree with Pauline that Mavis was not Amazon.
Swallow and Mavis were sailed by the Altounyans/Swallows.
A boat called Beetle was sailed by Pauline and her sister Georgina,
those two red haired tomboy girls.
The Amazon described and drawn by AR has far more in common with Beetle than Mavis IMHO.

By the by this is my first post under my new username Dan Ford which is also my real name. I used to post some years ago as "DickCallum" (I have round spectacles and am keen on photography!!) however I dropped out due to not having regular access to computer/internet, but I'm back now, living in Coniston, and re-registered as I forgot my password and can't access my old e-mail address.
