Just as oddly, it would now appear to have 're-appeared'. Just as I had nearly finished writing it's replacement. I may well stick some of second one up there as a brief 'photo blog' quite soon.

I guess AR feeding us the geography we need for each story is the other explanation, rather than the geography subtly changing. It does feel a little as though Kanchenjunga springs up in Swallowdale, the south of the lake heads north a tad, etc. But so much, of course, is the children's perception (we should never read too much into Ransome's distances, for instance, as something really rather close may have been a great voyage or expedition away for imaginative children).
