Now I wish I'd taken notes when Matthew and I visited! Perhaps someone could do so when they go. Pauline is obviously right when she said Mavis has an extra thwart (cross seat) - indeed, she has three pairs of rowlock sockets so six people could row together! And the centreboard housing is between thwarts 1 and 2, not protruding into the "cockpit" area - unlike the drawing "Do you surrender". What surprised me is that she was only about 12 feet (3 metres 60) long - she looks longer partly because of the unexpected angles as you walk around, partly because she is narrow.

I didn't notice that she was stepped in an iron ring (take notes!) though she does have an iron traveller for the boom to attach to I presume (see Classic Marine's explanation: travellers ).

However, Mavis in the Ruskin Museum certainly didn't look gunter rigged: Matthew and I talked about this, and her gaff has jaws in line with the gaff spar, which I would think means they wouldn't stay in place if the gaff was hauled too parallel with the mast. I used to own a gunter-rigged Heron which had tear-drop shaped jaws to allow for this.
