Here's what Captain Flint says about the book: "You know, Able-seaman, I can never say thank you enough to you. If I'd lost this, as I thought I had, I'd have lost all the diaries of my pirate pst, and I've put all the best of my life into this book."
This suggests his autobiography to me, but i suppose "Racundra's First Cruise" is a possibility, too. And here's one more quote, illustrating AR's feelings about his writing skills via the character of CF: "Never any of you start writing books. It isn't worth it. This summer has been harder work for me than all the thirty years of knocking up and down that went before it."
Both quotes are from S&A, the chapter titled "Two sorts of fish".
