Although the rescue party was dealing with a Canadian professor, the quote in the article from Sheila Ray (well-known in Children's literature) was:
"You probably have little notion of what American academics are doing to well-loved children's books - very sad, I agree, but a salutary warning."
I think the reason I damned the Canadians was that given their rugged climate, we expect higher standards from them than from the effete Old Country. Perhaps we could get some discussion on this at the Literary Weekend in September?
