I hadn't heard it before, and I'm struck by how very good an adaptation it is.

All the tacking up the field has gone to be replaced very economically with a newly invented arrival by train; on radio that makes for a good scene-setter and intro. Stephanie Cole is also very good as Titty today.

But there's plenty that's directly recognisable, and I feel the children were well cast, the accents just right and not too piping...

I found it moving and well done.
