Yes, absolutely, but he was too good a writer to present every 'sanctuary' as cosy. Sometimes, the dark shelters could be ambivalent. A brilliant example of this is in Ch 31 'Wigwam Night' of Swallowdale. Roger's conflicting thoughts and fears ring bells with me every time I read that bit. I love Roger's decision that "It would not do to think too much". Yes indeed, but not so easy when you are grown up . . .
