Sorry there is still some misunderstanding here,

Agreed. So let's go through your points one by one,

by navigation the AR wikia when you first go to it's home page does
not give you even a partial list of articles so you go straight to one.

There is a list of all the articles in the Wiki which can be accessed by
clicking "View all pages" in the "Contents" panel on the home page.

Then its menu system is embedded in bullet points, this makes finding
what you want and what you want to do more difficult.

Can be changed.

(which someone has tried to make jollier by using sailing jargon etc -
more irritating then entertaining, but that's my personal opinion)

Can be changed.

It is not clear if you have to be a registered user to work on the articles.

Each page carries the invitation:
"Improve Arthur Ransome Wiki by editing this page"

Now all these things are part of the way the Wiki hosts layout their pages,

Different Wiki hosts provide different engines. Each engine provides Wiki
collaborators with a set of components. Like different manufacturers'
'Meccanno' pieces, they have a lot in common with each other, but there are
subtle differences.

and all their Wikis will look like this - hence my comments.

Really? Have a look at these, all hosted on Wikia:

Now I'm not saying that any of the above are works of art, but they
certainly don't all look like the Arthur Ransome Wikia!
