Reading through these treads I have suddenly remembered my reaction to my first ever reading of GN - that the story ended there when there was so much more interesting we could hear about!
Another thought about if GN is the end of the series (I don't think it is - Coots in the North shows that), would AR of wanted to? Look at K J Rowling, she has given the Potter series a definite ending and is now coming up with odds and ends that may have been referred to in ohter books. And of course the classic example is Sherlock Holmes!
