I don't know whether or not I'm one of the people who have done this. I've never done it knowingly.

My method of viewing the board is to use the page which can be accessed from the Tarboard front page by clicking on 'Message Titles', but I don't get to it that way. I have the page in question bookmarked; it appears among my bookmarks as 'Check Messages with Names' (or would if my margin was wide enough), and the page itself is headed 'TarBoard Messages'. It presents a linearised, flattened view of the tree structure, with messages in chronological order and no indentation. To anyone who views the board this way, it is impossible for a later message to push down an earlier one.

[However when reading messages I don't go in sequence down this page, but follow within-thread links where they exist, and when they dry up I backtrack until they reappear, or until I've read all the messages on the board.]

When replying, I reply to the most recent appropriate-seeming message, but this may not be the most recent one with the same title. I usually have no image in mind of how this would look to someone who uses a different viewing method.
