I am sure you are right, there is no place called Beckfoot that AR used as a model. I also agree that he probably took some generic houses and turned them into a Beckfoot - maybe a house of his dreams. I certainly have a long term dream house I will never build.
We know an awful lot about Beckfoot from the books. There are several plans floating around. The recent one published in the Mixed Moss is in my humble opinion to narrow compared to AR's pictures.
The location of the frotn door has intruiged me for years, but after a lot of thoughtmy opinion is from the stuff said by Dick in PM is that it on the side opposite the river front side. This makes sense from the point of horse drawn vehicles arriving and turning.
Just a few thoughts.
