To me Great Northern is certainly as real as the other books (excluding PD and ML) with a feasible plot and real people and real boats in a real location.

But was there enough room on the Sea Bear? I reckon she would have been rather cramped for such a large party being an ex Norwegian Pilot Cutter but AR seems to have found a berth for all crew members. The description of Sea Bear down below is typical of AR in that it is exactly how a vessel like the Sea Bear would have been with rabbit hutch berths where one could draw the curtains across. He obviously had experience of such a vessel.
