I am delighted to accept Jock's magnificent explanation

Golly, gosh, gulp. [face goes pink.] I say, steady on old chap!

I was expecting to be shot down in flames over this. Andrew,
you are not pulling my leg, are you?

Nancy has badgered her Uncle Jim into taking her and Peggy
sailing in a big boat, which is why Uncle Jim has borrowed the
Sea Bear from Mac.

A sea cruise in a schooner is signposted by CF at the very end of
SA. I think this was originally to link forward to a real cruising
adventure, but is left hanging in the air.

CF is not one to make empty promises, but a year after SA his
prospective crew are much too young to go gallivanting over the
high seas.

However, by the earliest possible date for GN, 4 years have passed
since SA. Moreover, as someone once pointed out (who? when?
where?) during this time the S's seem to have aged an extra year.
This would imply that as far as ageing his characters is concerned
AR was going by his earlier chronology. In which the case the S's
and A's are at least 5 years older than in SA. Quite old enough,
methinks, for a short sea cruise with CF.
