The phrase is, of course, Shiver my timbers, but the 'my' is often pronounced 'me' with the 'e' pronounced short and hard as the 'e' in 'get'. Shiver me timbers is merely an attempt to render the phrase with an approximate phonetic spelling.

I have a fancy that "Shiver my timbers" was a Stevenson invention. Real sailor or pirate talk was much more coarse and is not fit to be reproduced in a family friendly discussion board.
