Help with homework, please?

Alex has been set an essay in which he is asked to contrast a passage of description in a piece of sea fiction with a similar passage in Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea".

He has naturally selected "We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea" as his choice of sea fiction - what descriptive passage (a page or so) would you recommend for comparison?
