Hi,

I set up the Arthur Ransome Facebook group some time ago primarily just because I was surprised there wasn't one already (there was a 'Swallows and Amazons are more hardcore than the Famous Five group'...) Obviously then it was mainly students and the like on Facebook so the content has tended to match that. To be honest I've not done much with it since setting it up, and was pleasantly surprised just now to see 100 or so members and quite a lot of comments.

You can set up as many 'threads' in the discussion section as you like, although I agree it isn't as usable as Tarboard and it would be a great shame to live a life with no Tarboard.

The Facebook group was in no way set up as an alternative to Tarboard.

If we have to move on, I wonder whether some sort of multi-user blog could be effective (something like a 'Wordpress' one). The only model I can suggest (and sorry to the non-politicos for this one) is something like Labourhome (the Labour Party activists site). Anybody can sign up and then post articles (however short) and then anybody can comment on them. I have no idea how expensive such a thing would be to run, and whether it would be possible to have it without horrible adverts appearing all over the place.
