When I were a boy, in the '50s, we English lads always refered to those pointy tents redskins lived in as WIGWAMS. So I seem to remember did the toy shops that sold play tents for use in the back garden (yard in US usage?).

On the subject of Americanisms in AR's works; in TPATM Timothy calls Dick and Dot "partners" and uses other phrases (although I can't recall which) that made me think that he might be American.
In PP the word GULCH is one with an American feel.
Is AR reflecting the influence of American films and western novels on British English usage in the 1930s?
