Hi Dave - in New England they seem to go under the name 'waxed turnips', although to a Brit they are definately a swede and not a turnip. In any case, my wife uses them finely diced in her phenomenal shepherds pie, for which we are having to make do with beef or lamb given that we haven't yet found the local equivalent of shepherds.
