For some reason, swedes seemed to be our staple vegetable during the WW2 years. I would have thought that carrots were no more difficult to grow during times of shortage, and they are infinitely more appetising. But I learned from my schooling, and ever since then, I have avoided swedes.
(But Dave T, I can get you one if you want when you visit ......)
