What did you do in the War, Uncle Jim?

It occurred to me on reading Swallowdale recently, that if Jim and Molly Turner, and Bob Blackett, climbed the Matterhorn/Kanchenjunga in 1903, when presumably they were about the same age as the Swallows and Amazons in Swallowdale, ie about 10-13 or so, Jim Turner would have been exactly the right age to be involved in the First World War. So, was he? Obviously it is never mentioned in any of the books, but most of the returning soldiers did not speak of their experiences. What do fellow Tarboarders think?
