And don't forget the staircases. There would have been at least one, probably leading up from the entrance hall to the landing. And I would guess there'd also be a narrower servants' stair at the back of the house, leading from near the kitchen or larder to the cook's and maid's bedrooms. (And from it, a passage leading also to the landing.)
But I have a vague memory that there's a mention somewhere of a maid coming in every day or other day, rather then living on the premises. Can anyone (Ed?) help with this?
I think there might also be a faint chance that the boxroom was up under the leads, accessible by a steep staircase (almost like a built-in ladder, and probably with a door at the foot) at the servants' end of the house, rather than be a separate room on the first floor. But this is pure guesswork, of course -- no evidence whatever.
