(Reading the stuff on fire-starting)

Now, I have baked rags in metal boxes until they're charcloth. I have used a flint and steel to successfully produce masses of sparks.

But have I ever managed to get a fire going from this stuff?

My best is a two second smoulder which can't be coaxed into life.

I've heard a witness speak of someone who could flint-and-steel a candle into flame, but I think I'd have to stick with matches. Life's too short!
