wearing a TIE while camping

The use of a "tie" as an item of clothing for men is recognized as
being somewhat dressy, not all that casual.

Mr. Farland need to put forth a professional appearance, so he wore
a tie, as evidenced by Mrs. McGinty fussing about the condition of
Mr. Farland's dresser:
============================
CC CH17

"Half a dozen collars for
the blue... Bless the man, if he hasna been stirrin' a puddin'
wi' the ties... an' where's the sense in a body laying' out shirts
braw an' neat if... "

============================

But the surprise in the tie-wearing custom is when Roger seems
to imply that, since he is wearing a tie, and Susan wants him
to put on two of everything, that he needs to ask about putting
on two ties. Somehow, when camping on a desert island, the
custom of wearing tie could have been discarded for a bit
more casual clothing.

I am surprised he seems to be wearing a tie at all, and even
more surprised that he might have more than one available.

Was it all that much customary for boys to wear a tie when
camping?

Here, Susan is just being Susan:
============================
SA CH17

"You won't have to. March. Put on two of everything else.
Pretend you're going to the North Pole."

"Two ties?" said Roger, going into the tent.
============================

But then, maybe he was just being Roger, and doing a bit of
kidding about Susan's request, perhaps in the same sense as
he had asked about wearing two pairs of shoes. So this does
not necessarily PROVE that he was wearing a tie.

But I can never be sure about the foreign customs of another
time so long ago, so thought I'd ask...
