I'm not very knowledgeable about nautical stuff, but this passage from WH confused me:

(ch 7 while rowing across to Beckfoot right before they find out Nancy has mumps)

"And don't you two in the bows go bunting them in the back," added John. "Remember, they've never done it before."

"Aye, aye, sir," came from the bow thwart, where Titty and Roger were waiting, their oars raised from the water.

---later----

With less hurry and greater care Dick and Dorothea pulled on up the lake, while Roger and Titty, sitting behind them, watched their moving backs and rowed with even greater care, to prevent accidents of another kind.

-----------------

Did they switch positions or am I missing something?

also, what are 'accidents of another kind'?
