Some people thrive on the "clash", as you call it, and they enter politics. Most would prefer to go to somewhere more peaceful, and 'vote with their feet'. The Navy have an excellent rule, that the two topics which must never be discussed in wardroom or mess-deck are religion and politics, as people often feel very strongly about both, and the arguments are easily escalated. I concur with AR's statement of his politics, as "Fishing". In my case it is "Sailing".
