"Nuff sed": used to be a favourite phrase of Model Engineer locomotive
designer, LBSC - "Curly" Lawrence. I don't suppose you read ME?

No, but I did have a favourite phrase from Phil Irving, designer of the Vincent motorcycle. I loved it:

'Simplicate and add lightness.'

Should be on the wall of every engineer.

I've seen it attributed to Ed Heinemann, the designer of the small light Douglas A4, but Phil was working a fair bit earlier... Either way, they were both great engineers and it's a great phrase.
