Going back to Jock's experiences with railway preservation as dangerous to the state, I would strongly recommend any Tarboarders within reach of London to visit the exhibition Taking Liberties at the British Library.
It documents the gradual acquisition of popular power from overbearing governments, as well as the recent carefree abandonment of these hard-won rights by our present government.
Although it has already been open several months, it was gratifying full (but not crowded) when I visited it a fortnight ago.
