About 3 years ago, when my son was taking a group of scouts round the 43 1/2 mile Three Towers Hike in Berkshire/Oxfordshire, we were waiting to collect him at the finish near Reading.
Another group lead my a man in his eighties arrrived some time before. I chatted to him and he said that his walking food was brown bread with beef drippping and Kendal mint cake sandwiches. He drank water with a little fresh lemon squeezed into it.
Obviously suited him and he had been eating it on walks for many years.
