First, I need to declare an interest, as Kendal Town Councillor for the Strickland Ward. I therefore welcome any publicity for a Kendal product or indeed for Kendal, though as a diabetic I do not eat Kendal Mint Cake myself. Mint cake is manufactured by small-scale family owned firms in the town itself, using no additives.
More in the style of Tarboard might be a discussion as to which of the three makes is the best - Quiggins, Romneys or Wilsons. Their recipes are closely guarded secrets of course.
Though not mentionned by AR, I've always assumed the they just simply carried it with them for emergencies... many important expeditions have done so e.g. Edmund Hilary's climb of Everest in 1953, Shackelton's trans-antartic expedition etc.
Elizabeth - good news, there are chocolate covered versions too.
