To be fair to Peter H, when he deviated from the original thread, at least he retitled it so that people were aware that it was a different though probably linked subject.
I consider this is a good practice in many ways if you are going to go off in a different direction from the main thread as people are less likely to get distracted from the main topic if that is where they want to be.
Courtesy and regard for other people's feelings as well as false modesty all lead us to occasionally write things we don't always mean sincerely. This is not real dishonesty, these so-called white lies are sometimes just the grease that smoothes the wheels of civilized behaviour.
