The sad thing is that there appear to be fewer and fewer cuckoos. My mother ( Home counties) hasn't heard a single one this year. My sister
( Cornwall) has, occasionally. And I remember the cuckoo's arrival was such an uplift in April. Bit like my spring peepers on the' tarn' in Virginia, who start heralding Spring very close to 21st February each year.
