In AR's stories, there are a number of characters who are missing, possibly having died in action in WWI. I can think of the following (and there may be more):
Bob Blackett
Billy Lewthwaite's father
Mary Swainson's father
Mr Barrable
George Owdon's father
Mr Tyson
Jim Brading's father
Harry Bangate's father
Mrs McGinty's husband.
Could they all have been killed in WWI ? Possibly, but of course we don't know and never will.
