I beleive when asked by Rober in Swallows and Amazons and by Bridget in Secret Water, Mrs. Walker states that in order to be an Able-seaman one must be able to swim. By Swallowdale it is obvious Roger can swin quite well, but he isn't promoted to AB until Pigeon Post. Did he need more experiance as ship's boy? And since Bridget is supposed to be about 5 in Secret Water, and obviously not a baby anymore, why isn't she promoted to something like Ship's Girl?
