Concerning the "timeless tranquillity" of the picture under discussion, I have this to add. I recently returned from a fortnight cruise of the Caribbean. The other passengers were about 95 percent English or Scots, escaping from the horrible winter. It was sheer pleasure to talk to people who could converse in complete sentences and who didn't throw in a handful of filler words and slang. What would one of my North American compatriots have said about that river scene? "Hey, it's, like, way cool" Or, if they were deeply moved, "Totally awesome!" That's just another reason for reading the works of the great man.

P.S. The other passengers, however, did use "brilliant" a lot.
