Page numbers

I happened to look in the SWALLOWDALE (Godine 1985 edition) Table of Contents and in using those page numbers listed there to locate a particular chapter, found that the reference was to a page several pages down into that chapter, but not to the first page. I checked on the rest of the TOC and found that after the first few entries, subsequent chapter listings became progressively further away from the first page of that chapter.

I contacted Godine about this. They thanked me for bringing this set of errors to their attention, then said they had used plates from Jonathan Cape, so it was all their fault, not Godine's. Guess they did not want to do any proofreading and then have to make new plates to fix anything that process found.

I have not looked at any others books to see if maybe that error exists in other books as well. Looks like another project to look into.

Now my question is: what about my TXT file copies of these books? Do I keep the TOC numbers as is in the book, or do I fix these errors to point properly to the first page of each chapter? I'm inclined to FIX the mistake, to make it right. That would make my copy better than the original source. How about that...
