Explanation:
The Greek expert on discovering the way to determine the % of gold is reputed to have yelled Eureka, as in the famous Australian fight at the Eureka Stockade.
He did not yell John. as was alleged in an earlier post. See above.
The first clue is the reference to TV and Monty Python. These great comedians have a famous sketch about Wollongong University and everyone in the Philosophy Dept being called Bruce. Hence the change from John to Bruce.
